Grifter #9

Rob Liefeld presided over the demise of Hawk and Dove and I'm not confident he can take the reins here. At least he's not doing the art, and he's got someone else doing the dialogue.

Things I liked: not much to be honest. There was a lot of retreading what had come before and exposition of what will be coming but not much new.

Things I didn't like: the main point of the last issue was completely ignored. He was planning to bow out from the whole alien war thing, and now he plans to lead it? I don't buy it and I don't think I'll be buying Grifter.

Grifter #8

Cash seems to be running around in circles. First he wants to kill all the Daemonites, then he doesn't. Now he does again. It's too bad, I really thought this title had potential but it's just rehashing the same stuff now.

Things I liked: didn't make Sofia into a new LI. They just went ahead and killed her.

Things I didn't like: where'd he get his guns on the plane (and the sub machine gun in the end)? And where did he find the time to put on his mask.

Grifter #7

This one seemed to come out of nowhere, like they really wanted the team up between Midnighter and Grifter but couldn't think if an organic way of getting it. Hopefully, it'll grow into something for both titles because right now it looks like the Midnighter thinks the crisis had been averted and the Grifter is going to ground.

Things I liked: the fight between Midnighter and Grifter was very even. Even though it was Grifter's title he didn't get the upper hand over the better fighter.

Things I didn't like: man, the Midnighter said his name a lot. Was it a mnemonic trick so he could remember everything?

Grifter #6

Seems to be an art upgrade this issue. I don't notice a change in the team, this just seems to be a higher standard.

Cole now has a new mission and it's moved beyond him running from the aliens and everyone being surprised at the other's existence.

Things I liked: is it wrong to like that his girlfriend got snatched and will likely not return? 'Cause I do.

Things I didn't like: he's gotten rid of one female hanger on and has picked up another. One that's ethnic because she sprinkles Spanish in, even when she's totally just talking to herself.

Grifter #5

I'm a sucker for a good alien invasion story.  That's probably why I keep reading this one.  Plus, I like Cole Cash.  He seems to have slipped into the role of costumed vigilante much easier than I would have expected and I'd like to see a bit more of moments where he questions exactly what he's gotten himself into.

Things I liked: the command structure of the Daemonites.  It's got a corporate cult feel to it.

Things I didn't like: how quickly Cash lets people into his confidence.  He's a grifter - I would think he's naturally suspicious of others.

Grifter #4

Seems like a round about way to give Green Arrow some purpose.

Things I liked: I keep hoping for something other than pure violence. I almost got it.

Things I didn't like: missed the opportunity to be something other than violent.

This book is not about what I thought it was about.  I thought there'd be a little more personality (he is a grifter after all) and a little less alien invasion.  No alien invasion at all really.  I don't know if it's a case of it not meeting my expectations or if I really don't like it much.  Except I kind of do like it, it's just not what I thought it was.

Things I liked: the aliens have a really interesting design.

Things I don't like: alien invasion by possessing people?  Right.

I'm still trying to figure out where they're going with this. Alien abduction of a con artist / former black ops and now he can hear them talk. And everybody wants him dead.

Things I liked: at least they explained why he seems to be taking this all so well.

Things I didn't like: some of the dialogue was really stilted.

Grifter #1

I really don't know anything about this character. He's described as a charming conman, which writers have to be careful with because their writing may not be as charming as their character. So I was not expecting the alien abduction. It's got me curious enough to hang in there.

Things I liked: there was enough to get me hooked but not too much to feel rushed.

Things I didn't like: and he's wearing a mask why?
