Catwoman #16

I think this might be the summer of Eclipso. I see signs pointing in that direction.

Things I liked: she's self aware enough to know she's hit rock bottom.

Things I didn't like: in some ways it was too easy to get out. She and Darwin weren't even supposed to be in the Black Room.

Catwoman #15

I'm not sure how I missed this one so it looks like I get the whole arc in one month.

Things I liked: frantic. The pace was just frantic. It makes her seem a little unhinged by the Joker.

Things I didn't like: a bit too mystical for Catwoman. This is not the scene I expect her to be in.

Batwoman #17

My iPad went dark when I was reading one panel. There was just too much to take in.

Things I liked: everything has meaning. There is so much brought into every action by every character.

Things I didn't like: this one was too wordy. The type was so small in places to get it all in. It was hard to look at the art as well.

Arrow #20

I like Felicity. I like her a lot more than McKenna and width they would stop pushing a relationship between Ollie and the police detective.

Things I liked: nice to see what Felicity thinks of the whole thing. She's very vocal on the show and this just reinforces that.

Things I didn't like: the situation was unbelievable. Helicopters in cities don't work that way.

Nightwing #17

I wish they would show the human side of heroes more often.

Things I liked: that Dick saw himself as the rock of the family. Joker really got to him and it did shake his convictions.

Things I didn't like: normally I really like the art. This issue was not sharp at all.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #17

I really liked this one. It tied things up very nicely.

Things I liked: Dick and Kori not being able to see one another. There's still deep feelings there.

Things I didn't like: Arsenal was really beefy in that last panel.

Wonder Woman #17

I can't believe that Orion slapped Diana on the ass! And I can't believe that she let him get away with it.

Things I liked: the Parthenon is growing nicely.

Things I didn't like: it doesn't seem like Diana has thought this plan all the way through.

Justice League #17

Aquaman back on the throne of Atlantis. I think I may have missed a chapter. The one where Vulco loses it.

Things I liked: Aquaman kicked ass this issue. The battle with Orm was epic. And Orm sitting in Belle Reve was suitably pathetic.

Things I didn't like: I know about Waller's team but u think there may be a third. No way Batman's opening the League to the Scarecrow.

Justice League of America #1

I think Geoff Johns too a look around the DCU and tried to find the least used characters to make into a team. And then created Simon Baz so he'd have an extra Green Lantern.

Things I liked: as an introduction to characters that most readers probably haven't seen it was the classic "file with everything we know". Waller knows a lot.

Things I didn't like: a team to take down the Justice League if necessary? I don't think Superman will be happy with that. At least they'll be looking for Booster Gold too.

Young Justice #25

The final issue. Too bad, I liked this series, and the show it was based on. Not so much after the jump but I still enjoyed it.

Things I liked: the final moment between Dick and Barbara. I do think she I the life of his life, I just don't think they should be together right now.

Things I didn't like: it felt too rushed. It's as if the cancellation was a bit of a surprise and they had to hurry to fix all the threads.

Threshold #1

Not sure what to think of this series. In do like Keith Giffen, but I don't like sci fi.

Things I liked: classic Giffen dialogue with just a hint of smirk.

Things I didn't like: a rogue Green Lantern?

Superboy #16

Superboy's time with the Titans has done him well. He's actually acting like a hero.

Things I liked: that he was impressed by Batman and Wonder Woman. Most of the heroes he's met seem to fill him with a sense of ennui. He's turning a corner.

Things I didn't like: fur-lined Batcloak. Dumb.

Legion Lost #16

Well that's it for Legion Lost. In the end I'm disappointed. I felt they could have done a lot more with these characters. I'm not surprised though, they seemed to run out of things they wanted to do to these characters.

Things I liked: it tied up the battle at least. It felt like the end of the chapter.

Things I didn't like: nothing's permanent. Gates didn't die, though he should have. Tyrol didn't die, though he was prophesied to. Wildfire didn't dissipate, because Harvest happened to have a spare energy suit. Nothing really happened other than that they're still in the past.

Ravagers #8

Warblade is amusing, I could get used to him.

Things I liked: the repartee between Rose and Warblade, they make a fun pair.

Things I didn't like: not sure where Rose is coming from here. She seems to waffle on the hero/villain thing.

Demon Knights #16

The character I liked the best and he's the only one who's not an immortal.

Things I liked: Vandal Savage can be downright evil when he puts his mind to it. Poor Jason.

Things I didn't like: sigh. Vampires?

Arrow #19

Slade Wilson as the hero? I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around that one.

Things I liked: how things are put I to perspective. I still don't get what that organization is doing on the island, but it can't be good.

Things I didn't like: unfortunately the art this issue made me lose track of which Australian was Slade. I thought they were torturing the wrong guy through a lot of it.

Batman and Robin #17

Impressive! Another issue that is more civilian in nature.

Things I liked: Damian actually got some character development. Nice to see him used as something other than a psycho little boy.

Things I didn't like: Batman's dream was the least insightful. Sure it led to a father/son moment of him having to check on his boy but there could have been more to it.

Batgirl #17

Now to deal with emotions of Death of the Family".

Things I liked: she spent mot of the issue out of costume. It was Barbara, not Batgirl, who had to heal.

Things I didn't like: the cover promises a showdown. This issue may lead up to that bu it was nowhere close.

Batman #17

Excellent story arc. There were so many things to like with this. Lots of character moments, even some out of costume stuff. I was afraid that it was Alfred under the domes. Then I feared it was their faces. I knew it wasn't but I thought the horror factor appropriate.

Things I liked: plenty of emotion. Batman and Robin's hug when Bruce released them. The family recovering from Joker's poison. Not showing up to Bruce's meeting, and how thy didn't show. Tim and Barbara hiding behind technology, Jason just not showing up, Damian with handwritten note and, finally, Dick almost getting there but deciding to call and cancel at the gate. Everything worked.

Things I didn't like: Joker knows who they are but doesn't care. I get hat it's a facet of his insanity but it's still hard to wrap my head around.

Worlds' Finest #8

Looks like Batman on the horizon.

Things I liked: Helena's backstory is nicely fleshed out. I might have to look for her miniseries.

Things I didn't like: Kara's rampage. It seems like she should be trying to maintain some kind of secret identity except she's totally not.

Swamp Thing #16

I don't want to wait! This is such an epic story.

Things I liked: I wonder to whom Barbara promised Batman's safety. I like to think it was Nightwing, but it was probably her father.

Things I didn't like: I continue to hope thus is an alternate reality and Alec and Buddy will return home safely.

Earth 2 #8

Not much from the heroes this issue, but it's a nice set up of the conflict to come.

Things I liked: Steppenwolf is a very civilized warlord. It makes a nice change.

Things I didn't like: not sure how I feel about Fury. Though, if Wonder Woman is her mother, who's her father?

Dial 'H' for Hero #8

You know, I'm kind of surprised that the Canadians are on the forefront too.

Things I liked: there's so much going on with this story. Each issue seems to open a new layer.

Things I didn't like: Canadian cops don't say please.

Arrow #18

I almost hope they show Detective Lance boozing it up on the show. It would explain why he's such a dick sometimes.

Things I liked: I like these little back histories. They add fabric.

Things I didn't like: I don't like Lance. His character often doesn't make sense.

Animal Man #16

They're getting closer to the climax, it only makes sense that its the Justice League.

Things I liked: Maxine's choice to join the Hunters was very dramatic. She still seems older than she is but the faith she has in her father is hopefully well placed.

Things I didn't like: must be alternate reality. It's completely ignoring the Third Army storyline from Green Lantern.

Detective Comics #17

Nice bit of detecting there at the end.

Things I liked: it only makes sense that the Joker would inspire crazies. Them committing murders too might be a little over the top but it is Gotham.

Things I didn't like: while I am looking forward to the mafia like crime story that's coming, I don't really like Emperor Penguin.

Green Arrow #17

I heard there was a new direction and creative team for Green Arrow so I'm giving it a second chance. I like Ollie better when he's on his on and street level. That's exactly what they've done here, with some influence from Arrow.

Things I liked: the art is amazing. Not typical superhero art either, but has such flow and tension it really adds to the narrative.

Things I didn't like: I can't think of anything. This was a solid start.

Talon #3

They really mined the circus for everybody, didn't they.

Things I liked: I love heist capers.

Things I didn't like: why is everybody so antagonistic towards Calvin? Doesn't he have any friends?

Monday, February 11, 2013

Superman #15

In a weird sort of way this is about relationships.

Things I liked: Superman and Superboy seem to be hitting it off. It's interesting when Clark totally goes asshole in other media but here they have to work together and that negates the dickishness.

Things I didn't like: Lex and Superman's relationship. If Lex is so smart, why doesn't he know who Superman is?

Friday, February 8, 2013

MacGyver #3

I remember the trash bag hot air balloon!

Things I liked: I'm really enjoying the essay at the end.

Things I didn't like: no one uses chat rooms anymore.

Fury of Firestorm #15

I wasn't expecting all three of them to be in the quantum space that is the Firestorm matrix.

Things I liked: Ronnie keeps things simple. I like that attitude.

Things I didn't like: the eyes appearing when Ronnie and Jason started getting control again. It was a hokey image to symbolize that they're able to see what Firestorm sees.

The Flash #15

Amazing art, just amazing.

Things I liked: the art blew me away this issue. The panels were so innovative and they gave such a sense to urgency to the minimal dialogue. I could probably read it multiple times and come away with a different image each time.

Things I didn't like: how Iris and Wally have been written out of this Flash. I miss both of them.

Batman Incorporated #6

Why do I feel like I've always missed a page with Grant Morrison?

Things I liked: the Bat boys all hanging in the cave.

Things I didn't like: he didn't let all those people fall to their deaths, did he?

Arrow #17

Flea licker?

Things I liked: nice to see Tommy and Ollie hanging out.

Things I didn't like: where was he keeping his costume?

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Aquaman #15

Is this the new mantra? When things go bad strangle Batman.

Things I liked: that he recognized that Batman could be the dangerous one.

Things I didn't like: different feel from the same section of Justice League. Batman was less on his side then.

All-Star Western #15

You can't keep a good man done, or Jonah Hex either.

Things I liked: Jonah just won't give up. He ought to have, but he won't.

Things I didn't like: can't wait for the Tomahawk story to end. Pointless and violent.

Batman and Robin Annual #1

This was very sweet. Both of Damian to do it and for Bruce to go along with it.

Things I liked: it showed their human sides. I feel that gets lost too often.

Things I didn't like: I still can't picture Bruce begging for 5 more minutes.

Monday, February 4, 2013

Teen Titans #16

There's something right in pairing Jason and Tim. I take issue with some of the characterization but a good team nonetheless.

Things I liked: Tim's big brain figuring things out. I like that all the Robins have become more distinct. For too long they were all little Dicks.

Things I didn't like: Jason most like a brother? The two of them friends? Can't see it. To Jason, Tim is the replacement. To Tim, Jason is the Robin that tried to kill him. I can't see them being close.

Batman: the Dark Knight #16

I'm a little disappointed to be honest. I normally really like Ethan van Sciver's work but this was very stiff. It had no flow. I don't know if it was heavy inking or poor direction.

Things I liked: I don't know. I'm not sure what they're trying to do to the Mad Hatter. I don't think this writer has the talent to reinvent him like the Penguin and the Joker. He did OK with the Scarecrow, but it's the same thing he's doing in this story.

Things I didn't like: Hurwitz seems to have crazy confused with random violence. That works for some Batman villains but I don't think the Mad Hatter is one of them.

Sword of Sorcery #3

She's catching on to those powers awfully quickly.

Things I liked: the Beowulf back up is still the best part of this book.

Things I didn't like: Ingve is a bit of a whiner.

Supergirl #15

She's so fickle. Let her hear a bit of her native language and she's forgotten all about Sean.

Things I liked: seeing snippets of her before she got her powers. She hasn't changed, she's still very self-centered.

Things I didn't like: why is Superboy the only one asking why H'El is so different?

Green Lantern Corps #15

Guy is not taking his dismissal well.

Things I liked: that he's so overconfident that he thinks he can take care of Baltimore the same way that Batman takes care of Gotham.

Things I didn't like: was he a teacher or a cop? He doesn't look old enough to have been both.
